Anita toured the new DND Carling campus, at the site of the old Nortel buildings in Ottawa West-Nepean. Shortly after being elected, Anita toured the empty buildings and was struck and saddened by the rows of empty cubicles, each one a lost job. Today, it is on the way to being a thriving campus again, with space for over 9,000 Department of National Defence employees plus another 4000 communal work spaces - accommodating up to 14,000 people. It will have its own gyms and food outlets - almost a small city within a city. The security being implemented is up to the highest international standards. The building will be modern, accessible and ecologically advanced. The green spaces and parking and wildlife centre will all remain open and accessible to the public.
